A Milestone, of Sorts

5000views.jpg

16 days in and hit 5,000 views - heck, fortuitously checked my stats page right at 5,000 views.

While I would like to think that my amazing writing simply attracted attention, I have to thank belledame, Drakyn, Daisy Deadhead, Queen Emily, Gender_Euphoric, and others who linked directly to me early on to get people’s attention.

And yes, I realize how purely self-indulgent this post is. Thank you, thank you very much.

You know, I am not at all surprised about this. I have been enjoying your presence on my blog for a few months now, so I’ve had the opportunity to see how brilliant you are. I have already “borrowed” some of the links I’ve seen on your page. The one about “What Kind of Card is a Race Card?” just blew my mind! How did I not see that anywhere else before now?

You have totally changed the way I view the world. Before this, my views about gender were very abstract. You make them personal.

I can’t wait to see what you have in store for this blog in the future. Oh yeah, I’ll break your fingers if you even TRY to get away with not commenting on my blog just because you gots ya’ own now! ;)

This means a lot. Thank you. :) Plus, I’ll keep commenting, I promise!

The “What Kind of Card” article was a bit mindblowing for me, not because I didn’t already know that “playing the race card” and other comments were silencing tactics, but I didn’t have a good way to explain it. Most of the language I’ve found to describe and discuss prejudice comes from people of color, because this is stuff that you have talked about for decades in ways that even white feminism fails at. Even though the reasons for the bigotry aimed at trans people are different than that aimed at PoC, the actions and words are so very similar.

Congrats! I don’t remember now where I first ran into you. But I’ve been reading ever since (the lazy, livejournal feed way.)

Yeah, I get hits every day from the feed you set up.

I think you got the link originally from Drakyn posting to some LJ communities, or you tracked back to my LJ account when I was commenting all over said communities. :)

Thanks! And thank you again for setting up the feed.

I followed a link from Obsidian Wings here, and very glad I did. I’ve always known in principle that the T part of the GLBT coalition was as important as the rest, but you’re turning the theory into practice for me. I’ve earmarked some of my Yuletide giving to make sure that trans causes get some more support, and have started reviewing my past gay-bi activism to see if it’s been as inclusive as it should have been. (Short answer is of course no, not anything like as inclusive as it should have been, but some campaigns and groups come a lot closer than others.) I hope you don’t burn out, though! Give yourself some time to recharge, too. Burnout seems to be a big early killer of blogs, and we can all use presences like yours in the long run ahead.

Thank you for the kind words.

I really want to cover the GLBT continuity/community stuff more, because I really do think that we have a strong reason to support each other.

I’m recharging too from the burnout I felt the other day - I’ve just got to keep at least one post per day for NaBloPoMo, which isn’t too hard…just dealing with the sameness in all the various articles.

It’s well deserved. This is one of the best new blogs around.

you’re quite welcome! I’m not surprised either, though. you have been working hard, and it’s an important subject.

  12. Lisa Harney Says:

Thank you for all the kind words! :)

I’m not close to burning out. I felt burnt out and fatigued from Sex, Lies, and Feminism, but that was two articles with a combined 10,000 words, much of it dealing with repetitive material - Charlotte said very similar things about both BDSM and transgender stuff, and I dealt with it separately. But it was more a matter of needing sleep and getting away from disassembling that stuff.

If it weren’t NaBloPoMo, I might not update as frequently as I do now, but it is, so I do. :)
